In this project, the design of the model of the university yearbook, entitled NIDO, whose meaning refers to the idea of a shelter and a starting point, has been carried out. The approach chosen for the yearbook seeks to capture the experience of the students of the Escuela Superior de Arte y Diseño de Andalucía (ESADA) beyond the academic environment, reflecting the connections established, the moments shared and the possibility of enjoying the urban environment. To convey this essence, we have chosen to include a photo album at the end of the yearbook, as a visual testimony of student life.

ESADA: More than an educational institution

ESADA is conceived not only as an academic institution, but as a space where creativity and imagination converge. Freedom of expression is encouraged, understood not only as a principle, but as a way of life. In this context, students, like birds taking flight from their nest, explore, challenge and redefine the limits of their own artistic vision. The yearbook seeks to capture that exploration, becoming a visual and textual record of what it means to be part of a community that lives and breathes art.

Visual style and editorial design

The concept of the yearbook has been developed under a minimalist and clean aesthetic, with the aim of making photographs the central axis of the design. We have worked with images captured with an analog camera, giving them a nostalgic character and a warmth that would be difficult to replicate in digital formats.

Since the publication was to be presented in English and Spanish, we chose to differentiate the languages by using two colors: bright red for English and deep black for Spanish.

As for typography, a sans-serif font has been selected, which provides clarity and legibility to the text. Titles have been highlighted in bold to improve the hierarchy of information. The structure of the yearbook has been organized according to representative images of each specialty instead of a differentiation by color, giving greater prominence to photography.

Contents of the yearbook

The sections included in NIDO are:

• Introduction to the vision of the project.
• About ESADA: its identity, values and methodology based on projects (Project-Based Learning or PBL).
• Review of concepts.
• Information about faculty and students, presented in a foldable or similar format.
• Specialties taught: Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion and Product Design.
• Master's Degree in Video Game Design.
• Outstanding experiences, such as Erasmus programs, Design Week and events related to the discipline.
• Collection of photographs.

Materials and printing format

For the inside pages of the yearbook, a 120 g offset paper in matte off-white color has been selected, since this material offers a better finish when printed in digital technology.

The format chosen for NIDO is 20x26 cm, inspired by Gràffica Magazine, a relevant reference in the field of graphic design.
